Tourmaline comes in many colors! Black tourmaline, also known as schorl, is a crystalline boron silicate mineral. It belongs to the tourmaline group of minerals, which are complex silicates of aluminum and boron with varying compositions. Black tourmaline crystals are often prismatic with striations running parallel to their length. They belong to the trigonal crystal system. Tourmaline is a common mineral found in metamorphic and igneous rocks, as well as in pegmatites. This variety is found in Afghanistan.
